what the hell happened big

Last we we took the first-ever What the Hell Happened Quiz.  I have collected all the papers and the grades are in.  Let’s see how everyone did.

Quiz 1 Question 1

The majority of participants thought that Steven Seagal was accused of burning a cameraman with a lit cigarette.  But the correct answer was Val Kilmer.  The event supposedly happened on the set of Dr Moreau.  Here’s a quote from the WTHH article:

According to executive producer Tim Zinnemann: ”Val was sort of teasing him with the end of his cigarette and burned this guy’s sideburn.  The guy was upset, naturally.”

An unnamed witness on the set recalls things a little differently: ”He burned that cameraman right on his face, and no, he wasn’t fooling around. It was intentional. He did apologize to the crew.”

Quite a few guessed Chevy Chase.  I tried to throw you guys off with answers that were actors with reputations for being difficult.  With that in mind, I was surprised by how few people guessed Mike Myers.

This was the only question on the quiz where the most popular answer was incorrect.

Quiz 1 Question 2

40% of you got the right answer.  Michael Keaton started his career as a cameraman on Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood.  Rick Moranis and Steve Guttenberg were popular answers.

Quiz 1 Question 3

We had a tie for who you guys thought put her career on hold to finish her BA at Harvard.  37% thought it was Elisabeth Shue and 37% thought it was Mena Suvari.  I didn’t think Suvari gave off that Ivy League vibe.  The correct answer was Elisabeth Shue.

I was shocked to see Geena Davis come in dead last.  Davis has a sky high IQ.

Quiz 1 Question 4

54% knew that Penelope Ann Miller blabbed about her affair with Al Pacino.  Sean Young came in second with 28% of the vote despite never having made a movie with Pacino.  I was surprised to see so few answers for Meg Ryan.  I figured people would see “affair” and think “Meg Ryan” but you guys were too smart for me.

Quiz 1 Question 5

43% answered that Val Kilmer wrote poetry about Michelle Pfeiffer.  Early in their careers, Kilmer and Pfeiffer starred in an After-school Special called One Too Many. Kilmer was so taken with Pfieffer that he wrote a book of poems entitled My Eden After Burns that included poems inspired by the future Catwoman.  Pfeiffer was married to the director, Peter Horton, at the time.

Quiz 1 Question 6

56% of you knew that Sharon Stone lied about being a member of Mensa.  Once again I was surprised to see 28% of you thought Geena Davis was the culprit.  Davis actually is a member of Mensa.  Expect that to be an answer on a future quiz.

Quiz 1 Question 7

Almost three quarters of respondents knew that that it was Kim Basinger who dropped $20 million dollars to buy the town of Braselton, Georgia.  The idea was to establish a tourism industry built around a Kim Basinger film festival.

Basigner’s plans for the town of Braselton didn’t work out.  Five years later, she sold the town for a mere $1 million dollars!

Quiz 1 Question 8

This was apparently the easiest question on the quiz.  85% of you knew it was Geena Davis who is an Olympic archer.  Apparently you guys know she’s athletic even if you don’t know she’s also very smart.

Quiz 1 Question 9

45% of you figured out that Heather Graham played Arnold’s mom.  She did so in a flashback in the comedy Twins.  So, that was a bit of a trick question.  I intentionally made all the wrong answers more age appropriate than the correct answer.  I was surprised by how many of you got the answer right!

Quiz 1 Question 10

Finally, 64% answered correctly that it was Christian Slater who was sentenced to 90 days in jail after biting a police officer on the stomach.  Wesley Snipes was the second most popular selection.  I intentionally picked people who had legal problems with the exception of Nicolas Cage.  He just seems like he might bite someone.  But alas, very few fell for the Nicolas Cage answer.

Hopefully everyone who participated had some fun.  Maybe you even picked up a bit of trivia you can drop into conversation at a party this weekend.  Assuming you go to a party attended by movie geeks.  I should have the second quiz posted soon.
